Tampa, FL- The application deadline for the initial administrative medicine board certification examination offered by the American Board of Administrative Medicine® (ABAM) is April 1, 2016. Complete eligibility requirements, fees and the application for ABAM℠ certification are available online at http://www.abamus.org.

Board certification in administrative medicine recognizes physician leaders who have both medical and business backgrounds. Administrative medicine, as defined by ABAM, is the practice of physicians who, as executive leaders, manage the integration of clinical medicine, strategy, operations, and other business activities essential to achieve high quality health care.

“The board certification process through the ABAM standardizes the skills and abilities that are needed for physicians to be strong leaders and effective managers of large healthcare organizations,” said founding board member George A. Williams, MD, MMM, FACEP of Dallas, TX.

ABAM is a Member Board of the American Board of Physician Specialties (ABPS), a nationally-recognized multispecialty certifying body headquartered in Tampa, FL.

In addition to meeting a number of ABPS general requirements, ABAM candidates must also have either:

• A master’s degree in business administration, medical management, or health administration

Or

• At least 5 years of cumulative experience in an administrative position, which includes additional training in management-related functions consistent with the core competencies outlined in the ABAM examination blueprint. This includes the

completion of an ABAM qualification assessment form by each previous employer and documentation of specific coursework and training.
