Tampa, FL- March 30 is National Doctors’ Day in the United States. It recognizes physicians for their hard work and commitment to the health and well-being of patients. The American Board of Physician Specialties® (ABPS) encourages each American to observe National Doctors’ Day by acknowledging the dedication of their own physician.
“Patients spend several life-changing and milestone moments with their doctors,” said Douglas L. Marciniak, DO, FAAIM, president of the American Association of Physician Specialists, Inc.® (AAPS) — the governing body of ABPS.
Events ranging from making elderly loved ones comfortable, welcoming newborns, or even the occasional broken bone and illness help define the doctor’s role in each patient’s life. “Physicians share uniquely personal relationships with their patients,” Marciniak said.
The March 30 date for National Doctors’ Day is the anniversary of the first use of general anesthetic in surgery dating back to 1842. Although the first observance of Doctors’ Day was in 1933, it was proclaimed a national day of celebration beginning in 1991 by President George H.W. Bush.
The commitment of ABPS Diplomates to rigorous testing and quality healthcare is what makes ABPS a part of the changing standard in physician board certification. ABPS certifies qualified allopathic (MD) and osteopathic (DO) physicians in 18 medical specialties. More information is available online at http://www.abpsus.org.
