Dr. Lawrence Stein is an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist in Southern Illinois. He has been active as a team physician for his local high schools and university and currently serves as the medical director for the master’s program in athletic training at McKendree University. He has a long-standing commitment to teaching residents and health care paraprofessional students. Dr. Stein attended medical school and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Michigan. He completed a sports medicine fellowship at the Minneapolis Sports Medicine Center. He was initially certified by the Board of Certification in Orthopedic Surgery (BCOS) in 1996 and became a fellow of the American Academy of Specialists in Orthopedic Surgery (AASOS) in 2005. For over 20 years, Dr. Stein has taken an active role in BCOS governance and exam development. He is currently a member of the ABPS Certification Council and chair of BCOS and the BCOS Appeals, Credentialing, Written, and Oral Exam Committees. He has also served on the AAPS Board of Directors and House of Delegates, as well as the ABPS Leadership and Strategic Planning Committees. Dr. Stein’s previous honors and awards include AASOS Physician of the Year, Commitment and Service Award to Board Certification, and the Thomas J. Ebner Leadership Award.

Dr. Sarah Gilbert, current president of ABPS, practiced emergency medicine for 35 years before retiring recently from Heywood Healthcare in Gardner and Athol, MA, where she served on multiple committees and was director of UMass Medical School student clerkships in the ED. She continues to practice medicine for Commonwealth Care Alliance in Boston as the associate medical director for their instED Mobile Integrated Health Division. Dr. Gilbert received her emergency medicine certification from the Board of Certification in Emergency Medicine (BCEM) in 1997 and has been actively involved with the organization for over 25 years, serving in numerous capacities with ABPS, BCEM, and the American Academy of Emergency Physicians (AAEP). She is currently a member of BCEM and the BCEM Oral Exam Committee and serves as co-chair of both the BCEM Credentialing Committee and Written Exam Committee. She is also a member of the ABPS Strategic Planning, Finance and Leadership Committees. Her honors and awards include AAEP Degree of Fellow; AAEP Physician of the Year; David G.C. McCann, MD, Devotion Award; Steven G. Carin, Jr., DO, “Giddy-up” Leadership Award; and AAPS Lifetime Achievement Award.

Dr. Arthur Cooper, immediate past president of ABPS, is director of pediatric surgical and pediatric trauma services at NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem and professor emeritus and special lecturer in surgery at the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. He is also lead ethics consultant at NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem and chair of the ethics council for the NYC Health + Hospitals enterprise. Dr. Cooper was trained in general surgery, pediatric surgery, and surgical critical care and is certified in all three specialties. He is also certified in disaster medicine, emergency medical services and holds a certificate in bioethics and medical humanities. Since first becoming a Diplomate of ABODM in 2008, Dr. Cooper has devoted significant time and energy to AAPS/ABPS. He is currently the chair of the Basic Documents Committee and a member of the ABPS Board of Directors, ABPS Leadership Committee, ABODM, and the ABODM Appeals, Credentialing, and Written Exam Committees. He is also a past president and fellow of the American Academy of Disaster Medicine (AADM) and has given multiple lectures on disaster medicine, bioterrorism, and medical ethics. His honors and awards include AADM Physician of the Year Award, AAPS Senior Achievement Award, and the Thomas Ebner Leadership Award.

Dr. Albert Romanosky is currently the medical director and state emergency preparedness coordinator in the Office of Preparedness and Response of the Maryland Department of Health. He joined ABPS 25 years ago when he obtained his board certification in emergency medicine. He earned his disaster medicine board certification in 2008 and became active with the American Board of Disaster Medicine (ABODM) in 2016. Dr. Romanosky has served as chair of ABODM, chair of the ABODM Written/Oral Committee, and a member of the ABODM Appeals and Credentialing Committees. He is currently serving as a governor of the American Academy of Disaster Medicine (AADM). Dr. Romanosky has presented posters and lectured on disaster medicine at the AAPS Annual Meeting. He is a recognized subject matter expert (SME) in disaster and emergency medicine, participating in several federal and state panels and workgroups. In addition, Dr. Romanosky has taught and presented at the international level as a SME and instructor in weapons of mass destruction and hospital-based management of mass casualty events for the US State Department’s Anti-Terrorism Assistance Program. In 2022, Dr. Romanosky was awarded the AADM Distinguished Service Award.

Dr. Karl Kelley is a leader in emergency and disaster medicine with a history of service to country. In 1990, he completed a family practice residency. After six years in private family practice, Dr. Kelley transitioned into emergency medicine. He is currently an emergency physician with TeamHealth. He spent 12 years with his local police department SRT teams in SC before moving to TN. He has provided front-line emergency medical care, stood watch for our country’s leadership, and contributed to the establishment of national emergency response policies and operations in times of crisis. Dr. Kelley’s track record of medical and policy leadership includes pandemic and medical countermeasures editor for National Response Framework, NDMS trauma strike team leader tasked to Secret Service for 2004 G8 Summit, chief medical officer for 2004 State of the Union Address, and chief medical officer for NDMS field operations during Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Dr. Kelley became certified by the American Board of Disaster Medicine (ABODM) in 2007 and currently serves as president-elect of the American Academy of Disaster Medicine (AADM). He has also served as a member of ABODM, the AAPS Board of Directors, and the ABODM Appeals, Credentialing, and Written/Oral Examination Committees. In 2015, Dr. Kelley became a Fellow of AADM and was named AADM Physician of the Year.

Dr. Donald Donahue is faculty with the Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians fellowship in disaster medicine, President of the World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine, and Chair of the World Humanitarian Forum Global Health Programming Board. A fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Royal Society for Public Health, and International Commission on Disaster Medicine, and a senior fellow at the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies, Professor Donahue serves on the boards of the American Academy of Disaster Medicine, Team fEMR (a grass-roots non-profit that developed and fields a field electronic medical record for austere environments). One Health Lessons, the High Alert Institute; the International Board of Disaster Medicine, and the Society for Disaster Medicine and Public Health, where he is past editor-at-large for the journal Disaster Medicine and Public Health Preparedness. Previous positions held by Dr. Donahue include professor of global health at University of Maryland Baltimore, Professor and Program Chair of healthcare administration and global health at University of Maryland Global Campus, Deputy Surgeon (Plans and Fiscal Programs) for the U.S. Army Reserve, and internal consultant and department administrator with New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation.

Dr. Jack Greiner is a physician-scientist, surgeon, optometrist, and ophthalmologist. He holds a master's degree, three doctoral degrees, and completed postdoctoral training as research fellow at the Howe Laboratory, Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary (MEEI), Harvard Medical School (HMS), and Schepens Eye Research Institute, Department of Ophthalmology, HMS and as clinical fellow, MEEI, HMS. He currently is an associate professor of ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School, adjunct clinical associate professor of ophthalmology at Tufts University School of Medicine, and affiliate clinical professor of surgery at University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Greiner has authored over 200 scientific publications, presented over 200 lectures and papers, holds multiple patents, and has served as principal investigator or co-investigator on over 200 FDA clinical trials. He serves on the editorial boards of 10 journals, is ophthalmology section editor-in-chief of Medicina, and editor-in-chief of the Journal of Clinical & Translational Ophthalmology. Dr. Greiner has served on the AAPS CME Committee for 20 years and presented over 20 AAPS CME lectures. Dr. Greiner's other honors and awards include the AAPS Lifetime Achievement Award, E. O. Martin Award, Fellow of the American Academy of Specialists in Surgery (AASS), AASS Physician of the Year, and Distinguished Practitioner Medal, National Academies of Practice.

Dr. Loren Chassels is currently on the medical staff of Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville, Illinois, and HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital in Shelbyville, Illinois. He has worked as an emergency physician for the last 9 years and as a hospitalist for the last 17 years. He holds a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from A.T. Still University of Health Sciences, a Master of Science in Teaching from Rowan University, and a Bachelor of Arts from Rutgers University. Dr. Chassels obtained his internal medicine board certification from the Board of Certification in Internal Medicine (BCIM) in 2014. He is currently a member of the BCIM Appeals, Credentialing, and Written Exam Committees and has served as chair of BCIM, delegate to the AAPS House of Delegate, and a member of the AAPS Recruitment & Retention Committee. His previous honors and awards include Fellow of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine, BCIM Physician of the Year, and the AAPS Achievement Award.

Dr. Karyn Condie is the deputy chief medical officer for the U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Workers’ Compensation Programs and maintains an appointment as an assistant clinical professor at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. She is board certified in family medicine (ABFM), urgent care medicine (ABUCM), disaster medicine (ABODM), and administrative medicine (ABAM). Dr. Condie is a military veteran who served as the assistant product line chair for trauma for the National Capital Region, physician member of the National Security Event Team, division director for the Global Health Division at USUHS, and chief of aerospace medicine and emergency medical services (EMS) director at Wilford Hall Medical Center. She currently serves as secretary of the American Academy of Disaster Medicine and chair of the American Board of Administrative Medicine. Dr. Condie’s previous honors include Fellow of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine and the American Academy of Family Physicians, Delta Omega Honor Society, Epsilon Pi Phi Honor Society, Defense Superior Service Medal, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Aerial Achievement Medal, Commendation Medal, NATO ribbon, Air Force Combat Action Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and Humanitarian Service Medal.

Dr. Royce Joseph is an emergency medicine physician at Baylor Scott & White Health in Dallas, Texas. He has ten years of experience including completion of his emergency medicine fellowship at Texas Tech University HSC in West Texas and his family medicine residency at Hofstra-Northwell School of Medicine in New York. He earned his EM board certification from the Board of Certification in Emergency Medicine (BCEM) in 2019. Dr. Joseph is currently president-elect of the American Academy of Emergency Physicians (AAEP) and a member of the AAEP Graduate Training Program Committee. He has also served as a BCEM oral examiner and an AAEP Graduate Training Program site inspector. His previous honors include earning his degree of Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Dr. Leonard Lamsen is an emergency physician at the University of Tennessee Medical Center (UTMC). He completed an AAEP-recognized emergency medicine fellowship at UTMC in 2011. In 2019, he completed the Medical Education and Simulation Fellowship at the University of Tennessee Center for Advanced Medical Simulation (UTCAMS) where he currently serves as medical director. Dr. Lamsen is also an assistant professor and emergency medicine fellowship director at the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine. His other clinical interests include point-of-care ultrasound and bedside procedures. In 2022, Dr. Lamsen was inducted into the University of Tennessee Health Science Center-College of Medicine Academy of Master Educators. He previously served on the AAPS CME Committee and has presented several AAPS CME lectures on ultrasound, medical simulation, and CPR/ECC guidelines. His current research interests include skill acquisition and maintenance, professional identity formation, and sharps safety.

Dr. Debjeet Sarkar is an emergency medicine attending physician at the Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center. He is also currently a clinical associate professor in the Department of Military and Emergency Medicine, Uniformed Services University (USU) School of Medicine in Bethesda, MD, and runs the 4th-year emergency medicine clerkship for military medical students at his hospital. Dr. Sarkar has 12 years of experience in emergency medicine including EM fellowship training at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. He is board certified in both family medicine and emergency medicine. Prior to his present positions, Dr. Sarkar served in the U.S. Army as a field surgeon with combat tours to Iraq and Afghanistan earning multiple combat service awards.

Dr. James Andriole is a compassionate, caring, and motivational physician with a multifaceted background who effectively combines administrative business roles, with a passion for volunteering and a dedication to assist, enable, and actively participate. He sustained a traumatic spinal cord injury causing paraplegia while saving the life of another. He went on to found Disability Consultants USA and teaches disabled children and wounded warriors to snow ski for the NSCD in Colorado. He is also a pilot who uses his aviation skills to inspire others with spinal cord injuries and provide medical care to impoverished areas. Dr. Andriole was a founding member of the American Board of Administrative Medicine and currently serves as a member of ABAM and the ABAM Appeals and Credentialing Committees. He has served on multiple other boards and committees including the Florida Board of Osteopathic Medicine, FSMB, USMLE, NBOME, PRN, and the American Association of Osteopathic Examiners. In 2010, he was appointed to incoming Florida Governor Rick Scott’s Health and Human Services Transition Team. Dr. Andriole’s previous honors and awards include the AAOE Archie Feinstein, DO, Lifetime Achievement Award and the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association (FOMA) Distinguished Service Award.

Dr. Donald Brown is currently on staff at Lake Granbury Medical Center in Granbury, TX. He has 23 years of experience in the dermatology field and is board certified in both dermatology and family medicine. Dr. Brown has academic appointments to Lake Granbury Medical Center’s family medicine residency as well as its new dermatology residency. He earned his B.S. in Health Science; Physician Assistant, from UT Southwestern Medical School in 1984. He went on to receive his D.O. from the University of Health Science at Kansas City, MO, where he graduated magna cum laude in 1993. Dr. Brown has been board certified in family medicine since 1996 and has held his dermatology certification through the ABPS Board of Certification in Dermatology (BCD) since 2003. He is currently a member of BCD and the BCD Credentialing and Written Exam Committees.

Dr. Emmanuel Konstantakos earned his medical degree from the Pre-Professional Scholars Program in Medical Education and Musculoskeletal Research from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in 2002. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University in Dayton, OH, followed by his orthopedic sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery fellowship at the University of Chicago. He began his orthopedic surgery clinical practice at the Holzer Clinic Health System in Gallipolis, OH, where he received numerous accolades over the years from both patients and colleagues including Physician of the Month and countless patient-based awards for exemplary surgical patient care. Dr. Konstantakos earned his board certification from the Board of Certification in Orthopedic Surgery (BCOS) in 2018 and quickly became actively involved with BCOS and ABPS/AAPS. He was elected chair of BCOS in 2023 and previously served as a member of the Strategic Planning Committee and delegate to the AAPS House of Delegates. He was passionate about promoting physician choice in board certification and advocating for ABPS. Dr. Konstantakos passed away suddenly on November 2, 2023.

Dr. Melinda Ring is the director of the Osher Center for Integrative Health and a clinical associate professor in the Departments of Medicine and Medical Social Sciences at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. She has an active clinical practice, directs medical trainee education and clinical and faculty fellowships in integrative medicine, founded the Cooking Up Health culinary medicine course, and conducts research. Dr. Ring contributes to textbooks, research articles in the fields of women’s health and integrative medicine, has published several books on integrative medicine including The Natural Menopause Solution, and is a frequent contributor to news outlets. She is the immediate past chair of the American Board of Integrative Medicine. In 2021, Dr. Ring received the Bravewell Distinguished Service Award from the Academic Consortium for Integrative Medicine and Health, one of the highest honors in the field of integrative health.

Dr. Wm. MacMillan Rodney is currently affiliated with Meharry Medical College and William Carey College of Osteopathic Medicine. In 1999, he founded a bilingual medical facility, Medicos Medical Center, which annually cares for over 58,000 office visits and delivers over 1000 babies. Medicos’ fellowship in surgical family medicine obstetrics is among the largest and longest running of the ABPS-recognized family medicine obstetrics fellowships in the country. With over 200 published articles, chapters, and books, Dr. Rodney has been recognized nationally and internationally for his educational efforts in family medicine. His research focuses on the transfer of technology for the purpose of lower cost and higher quality health care in low resource communities. Dr. Rodney and his faculty published the first data on point-of-care ultrasound as an essential tool for quality improvement in underserved communities. He is a founding board member of the Board of Certification in Family Medicine Obstetrics (BCFMO) and currently as president of the American Academy of Specialists in Surgery. His previous honors and awards include the Steven G. Carin, Jr., DO, “Giddy-up” Leadership Award and the Thomas Ebner Leadership Award.

Dr. Frederick Slone is a retired gastroenterologist who is presently an associate professor in the Department of Medical Education at the University of South Florida College of Medicine. As a teacher in the field of medical education, Dr. Slone was part of the first group of educators to obtain a certificate as a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator. His work in the field of simulation connected Dr. Slone to the American Board of Disaster Medicine (ABODM) where he created multiple high-fidelity simulations to help test the competency of physicians in this field. He became a Fellow of American Academy of Disaster Medicine (AADM) in 2015 and currently serves as an AADM governor. He has felt it to be a great honor to work with the distinguished physicians of the ABODM and AADM. In addition, Dr. Slone spends a significant amount of time helping his medical students run a clinic for the underserved population of the Tampa area and was recently inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society.

Dr. Bhanumathy Vinayagasundaram is a family medicine physician with eighteen years of experience in family medicine. She is currently on staff at Advantage Care Physicians in Ronkonkoma, NY. She is also a voluntary physician and assistant professor at Hofstra School of Medicine and has trained medical students. Prior to her present position, Dr. Vinayagasundaram completed residency training at St. John’s Hospital, NY and worked over ten years as primary care provider in India. She is board certified in family medicine by the Board of Certification in Family Medicine (BCFM) and has been actively involved with BCFM since 2019, currently serving as a director of BCFM.

Dr. Margaret Thirston graduated from Rosalind Franklin University of Health and Sciences, Chicago Medical School. She completed a surgical internship at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke Medical Center and her residency in anesthesia and a fellowship in pain management at John H. Stroger, Hospital of Cook County in Chicago, IL. Dr. Thirston moved to Florida where she worked for 16 years in anesthesia and pain management. She began an independent pain management practice over six years ago while continuing to work in anesthesia. She is on staff at North Okaloosa Medical Center in the Department of Anesthesia in Crestview, FL. Dr. Thirston is board certified in anesthesiology by the Board of Certification in Anesthesiology (BCA) and has served as a member of BCA since 2020. She has recently pursued a master’s degree in Medical Cannabis Science and Therapeutics from the University of Maryland. Her goal is to continue to provide support and education in all her fields of study through volunteer work and educational panels.
