AAPS/ABPS Leaders

Now Seeking AAPS/ABPS Leaders

AAPS is seeking Diplomates interested in serving on their specialty Academy of Medicine (AOM) or Board of Certification (BOC) during the 2012-2013 term. Effective leadership is why the American Association of Physician Specialists, Inc. and affiliates have succeeded for 60 years. You can help continue that success by responding to this call for leaders. If you are a Diplomate in good standing and are willing to serve, click here to complete a brief online interest form by November 30. Attending your specialty Academy and Board meeting during the AAPS Annual Meeting is also a great way to get involved.

The AAPS Academies of Medicine and ABPS Boards of Certification are the entities through which members, who share an interest in a field of medicine, work together. The Academies of Medicine and Boards of Certification meet in person during the AAPS Annual Meeting and by conference call when necessary. Additionally, the Boards of Certification hold a winter meeting in Tampa.

The purpose of the Academies of Medicine is to:

(A) Promote the highest intellectual, moral, and ethical standards of practice in the specialty
(B) Promote and provide education
(C) Promote study, research and improvement of the specialty
(D) Award service to the Academy with the Degree of Fellow & to recognize excellence with the Physician of the Year Award
(E) Elect members to the Board of Certification for the specialty

The purpose of the Boards of Certification is to:

A) Define the qualifications required for certification and recertification
B) Prepare and administer certification examinations
C) Issue certificates to successful candidates
D) Recommend revocation of certificates for “just” cause
E) Set and promote high standards of practice in the specialty
