Tampa, FL – March 30 is designated for recognizing the physicians in the United States for their hard work and commitment to the health and well-being of patients. The American Board of Physician Specialties® (ABPS) encourages each American to observe National Doctors Day and acknowledge the dedication of their physician.
“Physicians share uniquely personal relationships with their patients,” said A. Robert Cerrato, D.O., J.D., president of the American Association of Physician Specialists, Inc.® (AAPS), the governing body of ABPS. “Patients spend several life-changing and milestone moments with their doctors,” he said.
Events ranging from making elderly loved ones comfortable, welcoming newborns, or even the occasional broken bone and illness help define the doctor’s role in each patient’s life.
The March 30 date for National Doctors Day is the anniversary of the first use of general anesthetic in surgery dating back to 1842. Although the first observance of Doctors Day was in 1933, it was proclaimed a national day of celebration beginning in 1991 by President George H.W. Bush.
The ABPS provides board certification to qualified allopathic (MD) and osteopathic (DO) physicians in 17 medical specialties. ABPS sets rigorous standards of physician certification, at all times places patients first. More information is available online at http://www.abpsus.org.
